Below is a small introduction of this inherited disease I have.

Dupuytren's is a blanket term for:
  • Dupuytren's Disease(palmar fibromatosis),
  • Dupuytren's Contracture
  • Ledderhose Disease (plantar fibromatosis)
  • Peyronie's Disease.
  • Palmar fibromatosis (in the hand) is the most common form of this uncommon disease.
  • NORD recognizes Dupuytren's as a rare disease.

What is Ledderhose/Dupuytren's?

  • It is a benign thickening of the palm or foot's deep connective fascia/tissue.  In the hand it can begin as a dimpling or nodule in the palm.  In the foot it can appear as a pea sized nodule in the arch area along the tendon. In the hand it may feel like a soft cherry tomato or a very hard callus type nodule.  In the foot it typically feels like a firm green pea.  The nodules may or may not be visible to the eye.
  • This article explains the disease well.  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1305903/
